The Unix-TeX group is one that I maintain on the Arpanet, primarily to distribute information about TeX on Unix over. I haven't felt that there was enough traffic on the list to justify gatewaying it onto Usenet yet (mostly it's been new version announcements--about one a month). I have been adding Usenet people to a uucp based redistribution of the list (direct mailing). If you want to be on it, please drop me a line. When TeX becomes generally available, I will certainly look into getting the gateway software working here and into gatewaying Unix TeX to Usenet. For those who wonder, the current version of TeX on Unix is 0.97. I hear rumors that 0.98 is about to be released--I don't know how long it'll be after that that it becomes available on Unix (some conversion needs to be done for each new version). Versions before 1.0 are considered to be "pre-releases". 1.0 should be out soon, I'd guess. --Rick ...decvax!microsoft!uw-beaver!furuta (uucp) ...ucbvax!lbl-csam!uw-beaver!furuta ...ihnp4!uw-beaver!furuta or Furuta@Washington (ARPAnet)

There does seem to be sufficient interest, so I'll create the group. I'm going to create net.text for now, since the major topic of interest seems to be [di]troff. If subgroups start to be needed, there will be no problem in creating net.text.troff, net.text.tex, net.text.scribe, net.text.hardware, etc. ditroff and troff are certainly close enough to join. nroff isn't clear.
