IRIX 3.3.1 sendmail.cf
Hi netters,
regarding the IRIX 3.3.1 sendmail.cf problem not being able to send
mail to any other host ("rewrite: expansion too long") there is a bug
in the sendmail.cf file (infinite recursion in address parsing). The line
# to unknown host or domain--if we are not a forwarder, send to the forwarder
R$~F!$-!$*<@$+>$* $@$>29<@$F>:$3@$4$5
should read
# to unknown host or domain--if we are not a forwarder, send to the forwarder
R$~F!$-!$*<@$+>$* $@<@$F>:$3@$4$5
with the "$>29" removed. After this correction all our current mail troubles
are gone.

who reported the error and to Robert Stephens of SGI who suggested address
parsing tests by executing /usr/lib/sendmail -bt.

IRIX 3.3.1 sendmail.cf, revision 1.7 Hi netters, in my posting few days ago I said that our *CURRENT* mail problems are gone after getting rid of the "rewrite: expansion too long" problem. New problems are - forwarding doesn't work - mail cannot be sent to to SGI machines running 3.2.1 For a new approach to the mail problem, is there anyone who is running 3.3.1 on SGI machines and - after appropriate configuration of the /etc/hosts and sendmail.cf files - is able - to send mail from one SGI machine to another SGI machine ? or even better - to send mail from one SGI machine to a forwarding SGI machine which forwards the mail to another SGI machine ? If you can do one of these things please send me your 3.3.1 sendmail.cf file. We just unpacked another new 4D25TG and cannot do either of these things. Your help is highly appreciated.
