After having used jot a lot in 3.3.1, I find it remarkably bug free. Now that the bugs are gone, I have a pet list of properties that peeve me, and perhaps a number of you guys out there! 1) Don't know if a file has been saved ? Should have an indicator on the main panel. I don't like to try to quit to see if the file has been saved. 2) Save/Quit/Cancel widget : Should be able to change default button from cancel to save. A double mouse click should save the file without having to move to the save button. An Environment/Setup/Command Line argument system for special properties would be useful. 3) Panel Size on startup options : It is a big waste for such a large panel to blot out my screen when editing small files. I use jot just to make a display panel for small display only files. Should have an "wrap" option, so that the display will adjust itself to fit the text to be displayed if it is smaller than a default size. 4) Line Numbers legend: for programmer to track down error messages from the compiler. Would like to have a facility like 'compile-it' from emacs. I like jot's low overhead compared to emacs. At least a command line argument to position the cursos would be nice. 5) Option to startup as an icon. 6) Backup file/Checkpoint file option in the event of system failure or programmer/user error. Similar to emacs. Template to define backup file pattern, similar to emacs. Interrupt checkpoint with a non kill signal like HUP, to write out buffers to file. 7) Save state of editor in a file between sessions. Would like to preserve an editor session, again similar to emacs. 8) Font selection : consistant with wsh font selection. 9) Search/Replace function. Even a simple one would be nice. My main reason for using jot is its low overhead and simplicity. Some easy to program functions that would not increase its size would make it really my editor of choice, instead of my editor foist (foisted on me). I like emacs, but it is getting way to overbuilt and slow. dan. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | karron@nyu.edu (mail alias that will always find me) | | Dan Karron | | . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
