larry@tapa.uucp (Larry Pajakowski) (11/12/90)
I am attempting to use a PI as a gateway box from our internal network of assorted Unix and VMS boxes to the outside world (uunet in this case). There are several things I would like to do to mail that the sendmail.cf file doesn't do such as: 1. Relable outgoing mail as coming from a fixed machine i.e. abbott.com to hide the details of our internal mail network. 2. Have the sendmail understand that the gateway machine can be known by one of several names such as turing, turing.abbott.com, abbott.com and abtlabs.com. 3. Send mail which has an unknown user and or machine name to another machine for routing. Option which I have conisdered are: spend the time to become a sendmail guru :-(, replace sendmail with some other mailer which does these things (smail 3.1 or mmdf?) or hope that someone has alread done this and can provide some insight. I will post/mail a summary if there is interest. Thank's Larry Pajakowski Abbott Labs. uunet!abtlabs!larry (larry@abtlabs) 1-798-937-1153
