I am a relative newcomer to the SGI world & would like to find suitable replacements for software that I have been using on my Sun. Right now I have both machines in my office, and I hope to be able to get rid of the Sun, if for no other reason than to gain back some space. There are many nice office productivity software packages, some by Sun, but most available via anonymous FTP in the public domain. First is the mailtool. It gripes me that SGI's mail tool is so primitive. Under workspace, they have this very fancy mail icon that flips the flag up (obviously done in GL) when mail arrives. But then it throws you into a simple shelltool in the old mail program, as if you were on a tty. So the question is: has anybody developed (or is SGI developing) a real mailtool, like the sunview or openlook mail tool? I realize the most obvious place to look is in the x11 domain, but I don't have any information regarding possible ftp sites for x software. Other important programs include: a calendar program (like calentool for sunview); a rolodex program (like rolotool for sunview). I would be happy to summarize and post input from everyone who has useful information and post. If you send me ftp sites or actual programs, please let me know if you wish to have the information posted publically. (you may not want large hordes of people beating down your e-mail door!) Thanks in advance for your help! Steve Wheatcraft Internet: steve@olympus.wrc.unr.edu Desert Research Institute Bitnet : steve@unsvax.bitnet University of Nevada System P.O.
