We have a 4D/340VGX with an alternate console in addition to the graphics monitor. We would like to use the graphics monitor as a graphics monitor and not a console. Initially, when we set up the alternate console, we couldn't get the graphics console to do anything. I called the hotline and they indicated that we could use the graphics console by manually running /etc/gl/grcond when we want to do something. But that we could not get a login (or pandora) running on it. Well, after playing around with /etc/inittab I found that the line: gr:23:respawn:/etc/gl/grcond < /dev/grcons /etc/gl/pandora works fine with one exception. When I login with the NOGRAPHICS option on the VGX monitor, I find myself logged in on the alternate console. What I'd like to know is if anyone has gotten a VGX monitor to work totally separately from the console for both graphic and non-graphic logins? If so what is the trick. --gene gene@vis.toronto.edu (Internet) ...!{uunet, pyramid, watmath, ubc-cs}!utai!user (UUCP)
