I think I've found what is making our "sendmail" go crazy every few hours. It seems that someone is sending mail to us with a "From:" field that uses a mixed UUCP-style, Internet-style address that looks like: @portia.stanford.edu:sgzh!root This sendmail (or sendmail.cf) can't deal with this, and blows up. Now, what should I do about this? The mail delivery seems to be retried every 3 hours or so. I've put process limits on sendmail, so it dies quickly before crippling the system. I don't know who this is that is trying to E-mail us, or who is the intended recipient. I sent mail that I think should have reached this person, but I don't know if there is anything that can be done about the message that is still in transit. Any suggestions? -David Hinds dhinds@cb-iris.stanford.edu
