Hello everybody, during the last week I've seen a few requests/problem-reports regarding gnu-c and gnu-c++ for the IRIS. Here is my solution: Get the gcc/g++ distributions from foobar.colorado.edu. The tar.Z files are in directory 'pub/Gnu-For-Pmax'. The current files should be 'gcc-osf-1.9.2.14' and 'g++-osf-1.9.2.11'. The versions contained therein are workable for the IRIS , 'original' MIPS products and the MIPS based DecStation. Both gcc/g++ have (limited) dbx support. Responsible for the software are 'meissner@osf.org' (gcc) and 'grunwald@foobar.colorado.edu' (g++). To save disk-space, be more consistent and avoid an annoying bug in the g++-driver, use the driver (gcc) from the gcc-osf distribution both for gcc and g++. Just do a symbolic link of the form 'ln -s gcc g++' in your binary directory. You should not take the 'original' distributions from 'prep.ai.mit.edu' for MIPS based products, because: - they are more buggy than the stuff from foobar - they don't have dbx support (as of 1.37.1 !!!) - they don't provide the correct linkage scheme for g++ - the varargs/stdargs include-files for gcc (MIPS version) are absolutely broken. A happy new Year 1991.
