Yes, the image file format *is* basic in many ways, which is partly why we have never officially documented it. The SGI RGB file format does not encode a lot of information necessary for serious image processing, publishing, or visualization work. We are currently developing an officially supported image library, which will support our own image format as well as other image formats. Details about features and availability are currently not available. m. -- __ \/ Michael Portuesi Silicon Graphics, Inc. portuesi@sgi.com "There are two points to consider when you ask your husband for help. We've used the tools in /usr/people/4Dgifts/iristools/imgtools quite a bit to work with images. We've also used the example code to write image conversion programs for our own image format -> iris format. The code examples are really useful, still I find it quite odd that SGI doesn't document the image file format officially, after all they do ship a significant number of .rgb and .bw images with the demo stuff. I can understand not supporting the code in the 4Dgifts directory but the image file format seems really basic in many ways. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Adios Amebas, | "I've tried and tried and I'm still mystified, | | Rob Briber | I can't do it anymore and I'm not satisfied" | | NIST 224/B210 | -Elvis | | Gaithersburg, MD 20899| rbriber@poly1.nist.gov (Internet) | | (301) 975-6775 (voice)| rbriber@enh.nist.gov (Internet) | | (301) 975-2128 (fax) | rbriber@nbsenh.bitnet (Bitnet) | ------------------------------------------------------------------------
