Some responses to Apple-related flames and general griping... > I sympathize with you guys with 'Apple' problems!!! > I bought a new Apple //e on Feb 1983 (about 3 weeks after > it was released). > I was sold a version A board without being told. This > means that I can't take advantage of the new super-hires > color graphics offered by the version B board. > > I did however hear (from June 83 BYTE) that Apple would > be upgrading all version A boards for free ( as long as > you bought the extended 80-column card). When I went down > to the CERTIFIED dealer(Computers 'n Things, N.Dartmouth, MA) > I had purchased the computer from he just laughed at me and > said he never heard of such a deal. > mdn@foxvax1.uucp I can see where you'd be ragged off about the situation, and well you should be. But don't get ragged at Apple, get ragged at that dealer who lied to your face. There did (does?) exist such a deal, and I took advantage of it as soon as the B-board was available. The changeover didn't cost me one penny. My dealer was courteous and got the job done quickly. If I were you I'd call Apple TODAY and complain LOUDLY about your treatment, although had you complained earlier you might have gotten a better response. Apple keeps close tabs on their "Authorized" dealers, and you should get satisfaction pretty quickly. On another Apple-related subject, I really don't see much point to the complaints about the prices dropping on the Mac and other computers. First you complain about how much the thing costs and then you complain about how the price dropped $1000 after you bought it. Doesn't wash. And if Apple really WERE dirty money grubbers, then the price on the Mac would STILL be $2495, and the upgrade to 512K would be the $1500 that was floating around when the machine first came out. Think about it...then go play LIFE for a while. .rne. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...{convex,ucbvax,gatech,csu-cs,anl-mcs}!unmvax!nmtvax!ernie | Box 3101 C/S ...{purdue,cmc12}!lanl-a!nmtvax!ernie | Socorro NM 87801
