[comp.sys.sgi] ls -l dumps core

buchanan@cs.ubc.ca (John (juancho) buchanan) (01/16/91)

If a file belongs to a user whose id is not defined in the passwd file a
ls -l will dump core. This is a BUG which was introduced with 3.3.1 It
worked under 3.2.1 and it works on our suns.

We are running yellow pages (oops sorry that's NIS)
and nfs if that makes any difference.

This was found to be a NULL pointer and fixed in 4D1-3.3.2. Since it was not
in a shared library the change affects 20MB of binaries. In any case, 4D1-3.3.2
and/or fixing the password file will resolve the problem.
