Does anyone know whether F3 format scalable outline fon are available for the Iris to be used by X applications? X-provided fonts are pre-sized bitmaps - Sun offers F3 outline fonts which can be used by NeWS and X11, and as 4sight also runs NeWS it should be possible to display outline fonts, scaled to the requested size within NeWS, in an X application. Sorry for the long sentence, but any info would be appreciated. Ron Cagenello The Lighthouse (Low Vision Research) rbc@xp.psych.nyu.edu

It does not understand f3 fonts which were invented after it. What you want to do is certainly possible with NeWS 2.0 (X11/NeWS on a Sun). In IRIX 4.0 we will have X11 + Display PostScript [tm]. DPS has outline fonts (though not f3). You will be able to use DPS to draw scaled and rotated characters from these outlines into an X window. -- From the TARDIS of Mark Callow msc@ramoth.sgi.com, ...{ames,decwrl}!sgi!msc "Spirits of genius are always opposed by mediocre minds" - Albert Einstein
