[comp.sys.sgi] Console: network security violation...

YATES@C.CHEM.UPENN.EDU ("YATES, JOHN H.") (01/31/91)

Suddenly, a PI no longer allows anyone to log in to the console screen.
Remote logins work fine.

It goes along fine loading 4sight, then:
Network security violation
Rejected connection from LOCALHOST

The hosts table has not been changed in eons.

What is wrong?
(It is a 4D/20 running IRIX 3.1)
Thanks, John

Try to turn off the 'NetSecurityWanted' variable in /usr/NeWS/lib/NeWS/init.ps
(I supposed that you may telnet to the PI then modify it)

The problem related to the 'newshost', read the man page for details.

YATES@C.CHEM.UPENN.EDU ("YATES, JOHN H.") (02/01/91)

Solved! I figured it out this morning and an hour or two later the
correct solution (thanks for all the other helpful suggestions though)
came in from Peter Jaspers-Fayer, SOFPJF@vm.uoguelph.ca .

A few days ago I created /usr/etc/resolv.conf . I had an incorrect
domain name in it. A look at SYSLOG showed bootp gethostbyname failures
and eventually bootp/udp server failing (looping), service terminated.
I then suspected my new resolv.conf, and that turned out to be it.

Thanks, John
