I have been asked to add some 4x9 SIMMS to a 4D/25 that currently has 12 1x9 SIMMS in it. The owner of the system purchased some SIMMS, and when I installed them in the last 4 SIMM sockets, the system would run, but still only knew it had 12 Meg of memory. I removed the 12 1x9 SIMMS, and moved the 4x9 SIMMS to the "first" slot of each bank. Now the system could not find any memory. For the Sun systems we maintain, I have a Field Engineers manual that tells the magic incantations to make such things work. Is there such a manual for the SGI boxes? I could not find any hardware help in the manuals on-site. Is there anything that gives this type of information? I cannot find any jumpers on the CPU card to set SIMM size. Did I miss them? Does the system require new boot Proms? We currently have Proms labelled: 070-8000-007 070-8001-007 070-8002-007 070-8003-007 (boot 3) Have any of you made 4x9 SIMMS work in the 4D/25? Can you mix 1x9 and 4x9 SIMMS in the same system? The label on the back of the box claims: Model CMNB001 4D/25 Any help/pointers would be appreciated. --curt -- Curt Freeland Manager, Systems Engineering Purdue University Engineering Computer Network (curt@mischief.ecn.purdue.edu) (317) 494-3715
