[net.micro] Hi-Tech Peripherals floppy drives

A word of praise for a floppy drive manufacturer.

Last December, I bought a pair of floppy drives from a new
company called Hi-Tech Peripherals. They were Hi-Tech's IBM-compatible
DSDD drives (Model 548-50). I received Ser #s 1154 and 1155; not a
really experienced manufacturer. To make a long story short, there
were a couple of problems, but Hi-Tech was good on follow-up and
fix. Recently, I decided to exercise my 9-month warranty before it
expired to get a new head assembly (one of mine was noisy).
To my surprise, they said they had learned a lot since then, and
offered me a PAIR of their new product (same model number, but
lots of improvements) in exchange for mine.

Well, I couldn't refuse that offer. I now have them, and I'm
delighted. They format every disk I've tried, and read and write perfectly
on disks I've had trouble with in the past (on other machines as
well as mine, including Tandon drives). The new drive clutch is a little
noisy, but functions perfectly.

I'm not associated in any way with Hi-Tech, just impressed with their
product and their genuine concern for their customers. In case
you want to contact them:
	Hi-Tech Peripherals
	15192 Triton Lane
	Huntington Beach, CA 92649
	714 - 891 - 0027
I think the drive sells for around $150 now.

(Needless to say, I hope, these are my own opinions and
not anybody else's.)
