There seemed to be a moderate concensus that a net.unix-neophytes might not be a bad idea. This group would be for more mundane unix questions, questions that one would not dare to ask in "wizards" for fear of ridicule, a place for "wizards" to display their benevolence by dispensing unix gems of wisdom, a place for the masses to congregate and console themselves in their miserable ignorance. Would the "wizard-of-news" care to create such a group? Would other wizards care to comment on the concept? Is a vote in order? --Tucker (ptw@vaxine.UUCP)

I think a newsgroup for unix neophytes would be a good idea. I suggest the name "net.unix-ham" (for "amateur" unix users, as opposed to "wizards"). Saumya Debray ...philabs!sbcs!debray

I second the idea of net.unix-neophytes. Since I shot my mouth off in net.unix-wizards, I feel obliged to teach others the spells and incantations I've learned over the years. Actually, I expect it will be a pleasant obligation to meet. Mike Lutz {allegra, seismo}!rochester!ritcv!mjl

Yes, somebody please create net.unix-neophytes so people will quit arguing about it in net.unix-wizards.

#R:sbcs:-37000:inmet:7000008:000:342 inmet!tower Jun 10 08:56:00 1983 No, the appropriate net-wizard should just say NO. Both here and in net.unix-wizards, and that should be the end of the idea. See entries in net.unix-wizards about helping the naive and such. There are enough news groups now. Until a real need (a new machine/lang/OS/hobby) comes along, don't create a new group. -len tower ima!inmet!tower
