The following is a list of 251 net news groups. I think things have gotten out of hand. This list is from "hound" at BTL Holmdel. Some net news Guru is creating new groups by misspelling the correct names (e.g. unix?wizard). Before a new group is created a hash check of current groups should be made and then the creator should be made to decide if a new group is required. I made a rough check and found some groups don't have any messages and some have only a few. Rather than make it nearly impossible to generate new newsgroups, (note the net.movies.sw problems getting "past" 2.10 news), why not let them be created by incoming articles and automatically expire when they have been inactive for (say) a couple of months.
