As a favor to all reading this newsgroup and owning a Macintosh, can someone please rank the brands of diskettes available for the Macintosh and post it to the net. Please include your reasons, prices, and availablity of the diskettes. Questions I've heard before are: "Are Sony disks and Apple disks exactly the same?" "Are Maxell disks as good as Apple diskettes?" "Why don't Memorex Datalife diskettes work as well as Maxell?" etc... Can anyone help?? Thanks alot. -- Larry Levine, SUNY at Stony Brook uucp: {cbosgd, decvax, ihnp4, mcvax, cmcl2}!philabs \ {amd, akgua, decwrl, utzoo}!allegra > !sbcs!levine {tektronix, metheus}!ogcvax / CSNet: levine%suny-sbcs@CSNet-Relay

[Aren't you hungry...] The memorex disks seem to have troubles and are (following long standing memorex tradition) about 1/4 again the price of the others. Locally the Sony's can be had for about $35, and the Apple variety for $3.75 (apiece). I have yet to find any difference in performance that is significant, though I seem to have more than one Apple disk with bad bllocks, and the mac doesn't seem to deal with that real well. For my money, I would stick to the sony disks. Jon Shapiro
