[comp.sys.sgi] Color printing: Tektronix on an iris 4D??

jbaker@gmuvax2.gmu.edu (John Baker) (05/02/91)

We have an unused Tektronix 4693DX color printer sitting around, which I
would like to use on our iris 4D.

If anyone can help me, I would like a driver for this printer. Or do
I need a board?

Thank you in advance,

John Baker

We have a Tektronix 4693D color printer. We bought parallel boards for
our IRIS's so we could use the printer on them. PI's come with parallel
interfaces. On ftp.brl.mil, I posted a utility I use to change ARCGraph
".ras" raster meta-files to Tektronix 4693D, Black & White and gray scale
Postscript. The file is call change, I think (it has been a while since
I posted it), and I think it is a compressed tar file.

SGI ships the driver for Tek 4693D by default. If u have a PI all that u need is Parallel
Cabel to connect it and add a printer thru the System Admin tools.

I have a program called sgi2tek which is a hack of ipaste, makedisp ,
and Brent's change program. It will take an image produced from
'icut' and create a TEK4693D output file ( very large ). Please mail
me a message if you are interested. It is a real hack and still
contains alot of the display code from ipaste and makedisp which
is not needed, but it does work. You need /usr/people/4Dgifts/iristools/...
libraries. If there is enough interest I can post it to the net.
