We don't have this exact problem (Suns and Irii) but a similar one: an IBM RS/6000 and Irii. The mail directory lives on the IBM, and the Iris mounts it. What seems to work for us is to make sure that the permissions are set properly on the /usr/spool/mail directory that is being NFS mounted (make sure it is owned by root, group mail, perms 775) and also make sure that the FILE permissions are set correctly... owner is the user, group is mail, perms are 660. If you add a new user, either make sure their first mail comes to the Iris account, or touch the file and set the ownership. At least on the IBM, if the file already exists, its owner and permissions are left alone. It's only the first time, when the file is created, that things are treated differently. In that case, the permissions are set so that mail can be read from the IBM account, but not from the Iris. Hope this helps... -- Bob Funchess bobf@blumiris.chem.umr.edu Department of Chemistry University of Missouri - Rolla
