I can't believe I sent my stupid note to the list, instead of to info-iris-request. I _really_ do know better. Now that I've bothered you twice, here's a brief description of what I'm doing: A visual interface for information retrieval. Using word cooccurrence data, I'm building a space in which keyterms and document representations are located. The idea is to build a navigable information retrieval system. This is my dissertation project, so I'm working on both the theoretical implications and the development of a working prototype system. I'm running on an old 3000-series workstation. A new Personal Iris just arrived in the Graphics Lab. I'm at the point of wanting to add the 'candy' to the interface, for which I'll need an additional monitor (and maybe CPU). I might hook the IRIS' together, or run under X in conjunction with a Sun4 (hence my interest in this list population....a query is probably on its way). So far, I've just built a mouse-based interface to the space: you sort of fly around in the midst of keyterms and documents, looking for a promising area for your particular information needs. Again, sorry for interrupting the list. (For a detailed description of netiquette and a review of research on the topic, see Howard S. Rosenbaum and Gregory B. Newby, "Information Networking: An Emerging Form of Human Communication" in Proceedings of the ASIS Annual Meeting. Medford, NJ: Learned Information, 1990.....just in case you're interested.) -- Greg Newby School of Information Studies Syracuse University gbnewby@sunrise.bitnet gbnewby@rodan.acs.syr.edu

My apologies for sending this to the entire list, but multiple requests to info-iris-request have not worked yet... PLEASE DROP ME FROM THIS MAILING LIST
