Help! Today a non-privlidged user of one of our Personal Iris workstations had his Workspace window disappear. When he tried to re-start it from the system toolchest, he get a message on the console; Can't connect with File Access Monitor (fam) None of the accounts on that station can use the workspace tool, not even root. Time to look around! Sure enough... the fam process is not running anymore on that machine. The line to start it does exist in /usr/etc/initd.conf. We did a diff between this fam file and one on another (working) system using nfs. We tried to start the process again, but it stays alive only until the first attempt to start WorkSpace. There are no fam-related messages in SYSLOG. Disk is not full. Where do I start? Is there another error log file I should be looking at? Is there a way to make fam be more verbose? Should I be looking at someone's user.ps file for problems? I'm looking for a direction. Thanks for any help you can give. PI 4D/20, 16 Meg.
