[comp.sys.sgi] new sgi user has queries

bagchi@eecs.umich.edu (Ranjan Bagchi) (05/17/91)

Welp, I got to play with an sgi machine for the first
time last night, and let me say, I'm impressed. Like really
really impressed. I screwed around with some demo programs,
and saw that everything I wished I could do with the X programs
I hacked out on the suns, but couldn't because I didn't have the
speed are well within the limits of this machine. Not bad for a
night's use.

Unfortunately, these machines (I know of 2) aren't terribly
popular for most users, and while they seem to have a "normal"
configuration, what I really need is a decent set of dotfiles which
give me something close to a reasonable environment to work in. I
naively tried the ones which I"m happy with on Sparcs and Decstations,
but they simply don't do it. So, because I don't know who the sgi
guru is on my site, I consult the net. Could you send me your
favorite dotfiles, and give me an idea how to work this silly machine?
I'm quite familiar with UNIX...just not the sgi-specific stuff.

RTFM's welcome...as long as which M and where in it is
given...
