This is directed to those people who have had experience installing a second (enp0) Etherboard on the VME buson a 4D/25 (or comparable machine). I have done just that but I appear to be having a number of problems. If you have any hints or suggestions or see anything glaringly wrong with what I have done (see below), please Email me ASAP. Following the guide, I installed the board, using the System Manager tool to turn off and on the Yellow Pages and TCP/IP (looked like black magic to me). The machine in question is a disk server, a name server, a YP server as well now a gateway. It didn't auto-reconfigure at first because I was having trouble seating the board. This is the first piece of SGI hardware which has not impressed me; one of the board's mounting screws broke; the drop cable fitted the socket poorly so I had to do a little re-fitting of the cable's locking pins so it was snug; the board sticks out so far that the drop cable won't let the box close. Eventually, after 5 or 6 reboots and refits, the system auto-reconfigured and recognized the board. The single machine that was on the new subnet (besides the gateway), refused telnet/rlogin attempts although rup/ping worked fine. The gateway suffered two kernel fault crashes. I can't ping the gateway machine at its new address from itself or any other machine. Previously, I changed the entries in our local master name server (which the new gateway is secondary for) to reflect the double nature of the machine's addresses (local domain 132.206.9.0; new subnet is 132.206.123.0 as provided by local Internet authorities). I set the option ipgateway in /usr/sysgen/master/bsd on and rebuilt the kernel. Now, to make matters worse, the gateway is refusing telnet/rlogin attempts from other machines. I can't seem to find anything in the manuals that I missed. I am feeling thoroughly incompetent today. I know this is all rather confused but I am a bit worn out and I need some help. I don't have time to go to the Hotline today. I usually find this list to be faster anyways. Please ask any questions that seem pertinent to you if you are interested in helping.
