As a couple of people have asked about it, here's what I know about the Olivetti 2300 Ink (Spark) Jet printer. A friend and I each got one about 3 months ago. So far, no maintenance problems. It IS quiet--just the sound of the sparks zapping along. Advertised speed is 110cps--I haven't timed it. It has no 'letter quality' mode, just dot matrix, 'though it does have 10, 12, or 18 chrs./inch, double-width, double-height, underline, etc. It does not have true descenders, but uses a raised baseline for lower case letters to produce the illusion of descenders. It's available from DAK mail order for $199 plus interface (graphic dump software available). I'm told that it's on the GSA (Gov't) schedule, which means that parts (ink cartridges) MUST remain available for 5 years. Ink cartridges are $6.50 +$.50s/h for a box of 4 from DAK. Each cartridge is good for (advertised) 150,000 characters (of course, graphics use more). I use pin-feed paper in mine, and have had a little trouble with allignment when using the friction feed only. Happy to answer any specific queries I can.
