Here's one for you all.... I have this user. His account is distributed amongst the various IRI via NIS/YP. To that end, on the YP master server, his passwd entry is actually found in a file separate from /etc/passwd. This is acceptable as long as the /usr/etc/yp/Makefile is properly maintained. Along with 100 other users, his account is recognized and works properly. Recently though (a few weeks ago) something changed. When doing a "ps -ef", he is listed by his UID number instead of user name. And pandora no longer displays his login icon. This is true for all IRI who get their user info from NIS/YP. Other than this small bother, there aren't any other problems. As well, no other user has this problem. Experimenting, I found that creating an entry in /etc/passwd restored pandora/ps behviour to normal on the local machine. One additional note: This user is me. I have a separate account "loki" distinct in every way from "root". It should be as standard as any user. But since I have special super-user privileges, it is conceivable that I have inadvertantly changed something in my "loki" account.
