I have been using the Elm mailer (version 2.3) for
some time on my 4D20G (3.3.1). I have been trying to
use the filter program lately and have run into file
permission problems (i.e., can't open lockfile or system mailbox).
I seem to recall some discussion of this problem and a solution
being presented here. So, if someone reading this has fixed this
problem please share the solution with me.

Thanks to all who responded to my query concerning external device
problems. It turns out I had two devices (tape and HD) with the same
SCSI address due to a misunderstanding of the jumpering scheme
on the tape drive (no spec sheet). It also took me a while to
stumble on the "MAKEDEV" script.
