We have used kermit at 9600 baud quite a bit but recently tried out the xmodem/ymodem/zmodem package that is available on many archive sites. It compiled using the sysV flag in the Makefile first try and seems to run fine. On a 9600 baud serial line we get about double the throughput of kermit using zmodem. This is for PC's but I think you can find Mac software that supports the zmodem protocol. If anyone can't find the source I could mail them the tar'd, compressed, uuencoded source (~100K). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Adios Amebas, | "I've tried and tried and I'm still mystified, | | Robert Briber | I can't do it anymore and I'm not satisfied" | | NIST 224/B210 | -Elvis | | Gaithersburg, MD 20899| rbriber@poly1.nist.gov (Internet) | | (301) 975-6775 (voice)| rbriber@enh.nist.gov (Internet) | | (301) 975-2128 (fax) | rbriber@nbsenh.bitnet (Bitnet) | ------------------------------------------------------------------------

An addendum to my previous posting about zmoded versus kermit would be that to get really efficient file transfer the best way to go would be to buy a ethernet card for the Mac (~$?) or PC (~ $200) and get a copy of NCSA telnet (free) and then use FTP for the file transfer. This is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH faster than serial port transfers.
