[net.micro] Something you'll never see in Pourne

I loved reading your spoof on J. Pournelle. Most of the people I know
who read Byte with any regularity have exactly the same opinion of JP:
He is a know-nothing *ssh*l*. Usually the column gets read just to see
what stupid things he has said this month. And the way he talks about
his son! And his "books!" And his friends! And ....

Cut it out already! Jerry's column may not contain all of the hard-core
technimaterial you want but it's entertaining and well written. I find
it amazing how many people have blasted his column. Why? If you don't
enjoy the content then pass over it. If you find that Byte is not cover-
ing the material you think it should then write a letter to the editor.
There are always plenty of options and opportunities for disgruntled
readers to voice their opinions. Use these options. As for Jerry - I'll
keep reading his adventures in microland stories. I like them.

I think you guys are hitting JP a little too hard. I know this
will be difficult, but try to think back to a time when you didn't know
what BDOS or BIOS meant. Can you remember that far back? JP's article
is geared for the casual user, not someone who can re-write all the system
calls and do a better job than the original programmer. If you don't
like it, read something else. Of course you can do what I do. Read it
for a little entertainment. It's nice to know what kind of yo-yo's
are out there using the programs we write.
