All, We have been in the process of installing a dedicated point-to-point T1 link between organizations using Dowty T1 CSUs and Proteon p4200's. In the past month, we have experienced numerous problems with both the CSUs and the circuit. We have booted both Proteon p4200 gateways at each end location without incident and each gateway's T1 RS449 interface has come up with the CSU in a local loopback state. We have also checked all RS449 cables for continuity. We are 99.5% certain the problem does not lie with the gateways. Dowty is fairly confident on the settings for their CSUs, however, they are not 100% confident about setting for the Density Mode (FCC Part 68 or 62411) and the Sync Data Mode (Normal or Inverted). Please refer to the chart below for the configurable list of parameters. Our DSU/CSU is running firmware release 2.2 (required to be compatible with the telephone company's smart jack) and the other end is running an older rev. We would appreciate any suggestions on the Dowty CSU and Proteon p4200 interface. Thanks, Wendy Winner (301) 278-6655 Configuration Information for Dowty CSU, Model 7055060 Firmware Releases 2.1 & 2.2 ----------------------------------- | Parameter Setting | +----------------------------------| | | | DTE Rate 1344000 bps | | Format 306 to T1 D4 | | Mode Sync to AMI | | Interface RS422 | | Density Mode FCC Part 68 | or 62411? | Timing Internal | (Timing is repeater at remote | | to provide the clock.) | KP Alive 2 - Framed once | | Remote unit Compatible | |Line Build Out 0 | We've also tried 7.5db. |Remote Loop Opt Enable | | SY Data Mode Normal | or Inverted? | Sync Clock Give Both | | Sync DSR On | | Sync CTS On | | Sync LSA On | | Sync Diagntc Off | -----------------------------------

Make sure that all your Dowty modems are running 2.X firmware. The version 1 stuff has bugs in it that keep it from working with Cisco, so it probably breaks with Proteon as well.
