We're in the process of procuring a Proteon p4200-32 PRONET-80 to Ethernet router, with 2 MB ram. We have a requirement to support a steady 2 Mbit throughput through this thing. Our vendor has told us that the p4200 will support 'true' Ethernet speeds (ie. ~5-10 Mbits). Does anybody out there have any experience with the p4200 router, throughput numbers, good/bad experiences, etc. ? If you send me e-mail, I will summarize for the rest of the group. Thanks much. -- Mike Tankenson Telos/Jet Propulsion Laboratory/NASA 4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena, CA. 91109 Mail Stop: 301-260a Phone: (818) 354-1439 ARPA: mike@jpl-devvax.JPL.NASA.GOV UUCP: seismo!cit-vax!jpl-devvax!mike

My guess if the p4200 wasn't able to deal with 2MBit flows, we would have heard by now and they'd probably be out of business. Of course, the bottleneck is likely to be in your host. Some of the most expensive ethernet interfaces on the market are lucky to be able to push a few hundred kbits out, while some of the integral controllers in cheap workstations can run close to the full rated Ethernet speed. -Ron
