We have been having a problem with our PRONET-80 machines here at JPL, and were wondering if anybody else had experienced such things. If so, we'd like to here from you regarding hardware/software failures, software bug fixes, workarounds, etc. The configuration looks like so: [popeye] | [wc] | <<ring>> | [wc] | [bluto] Both popeye and bluto are Sun 3/260s, running SunOS 4.0.1, with PRONET-80 interface boards installed + driver software. The version of the driver software is 1.7, and the driver header file is 1.3. Proteon maintains that we are running the latest version of their software. I don't have information on the board revisions handy, but we only received them about 4 months ago. Both Suns also have standard Ethernet drivers, but we don't see any problems on the Ethernet side. Neither of these Suns exhibit any other problems (ie. we're pretty sure it's p80 related). The problem description: When sending UDP streams from one Sun to the other Sun, we panic crash the receiving Sun with a 'panic: segkmem_badop'. This is very repeatable. In fact, repeat by using the 'ttcp' program from BRL, and send a high speed UDP stream from one Sun to the other. The first session will complete Ok. The next time that you try to start the 'ttcp' into receive mode: ttcp -r -u ... & The Sun will panic crash. Now when a small inter-record delay is placed between UDP packets, the problem goes away. This only appears to happen when large streams of back-to-back UDP packets are sent to the Sun. TCP streams work fine. This does *not* happen when sending data over the loopback interface -- only when one Sun is sending to the other Sun. Any helpful ideas would be welcomed.
