We have a SLIP line running between two Proteon routers which is showing a surprising number of lost packets. When there is no other (readily visible) traffic on the line, ping reports 5 to 30% packet loss. I suspect that there is additional traffic flowing over the SLIP line that is swamping the available bandwidth. What I'd like to be able to do is see what traffic is flowing over the line or diagnose the problem further. The two networks connected by the router are parts of the same B class network with C class subnet masks. Other lower speed SLIP lines that are connected directly between our machines have 0% loss under the same conditions. I apologise for my ignorance but I find this stuff confusing. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Ben Golding <bgg@pta.oz.au>
