[comp.sys.proteon] ProNET-80 i/f Problem

sting@LAOTSE.CAM.NIST.GOV (s. ting) (02/06/91)

The ProNET-80 i/f of one of our p4200s on the ring
failed late last Friday. It came back by itself
around 3 pm Sunday's afternoon. Then it failed again
yesterday afternoon. The router itself has been up
all the time.

We tried to find out what the source of this
intermittent problem come from. As I remember, the
results of "test i/f" under "t 5" were always
successful according to the router under three
different physical configurations: 1) a loopback
plug on the p4200's pronet-80 i/f connector, 2) a
loopback plug on the end of the pronet-80 black
cable, and 3) the p4200 connected to p3280 through
black-red cable.

But, if we passively waited, then sooner or later
the router would declare the i/f down. We swapped
the p3280 and the red cable, nothing changed. We
are reluctant to swap the ProNET-80 CTL board since
we know the current CTL board is well aligned while
our spare CTL boards are not.

I would appreciate very much for any idea about the
source of the problem and/or which part of the system
may cause the problem.
