Re recent message on TCP/IP between Xerox and VMS VAX using the Wollongong software - later versions of TCP (KOTO2 and LYRIC) request a max seg size of 512. The Wollongong software has the Maximum Transmission Unit (= seg size + header?) set to 1024. If you try to transfer a file bigger than 511 bytes the Wollongong software refuses to send anything and the TCP connection eventually breaks. The cure is to set the MTU to around 512, details in Wollongong Administrators guide. Mike Roberts ARE Portland UK.
