[comp.sys.xerox] TCP/IP

ADRE@gec-m.rutherford.ac.UK (Tony Anderdson) (12/02/87)

Re recent message on TCP/IP between Xerox and VMS VAX using the
Wollongong software - later versions of TCP (KOTO2 and LYRIC) request
a max seg size of 512. The Wollongong software has the Maximum
Transmission Unit (= seg size + header?) set to 1024. If you try to
transfer a file bigger than 511 bytes the Wollongong software refuses
to send anything and the TCP connection eventually breaks. The cure is
to set the MTU to around 512, details in Wollongong Administrators
guide.
