[comp.sys.xerox] Defense Science Board report / Interlisp programming environment

SCHMIDT@SUMEX-AIM.STANFORD.EDU (Christopher Schmidt) (12/29/87)

In the December 21 issue of "Aviation Week & Space Technology"
on page 72 there is a short article summarizing a report produced by
a task force of the Defense Science Board concerning the problems of
software development/acquisition for the Department of Defense.
The article covers a lot of territory, but I was pleased to read
in the closing paragraphs:

" Software development is labor-intensive and will remain so, the
" report said, but has benefited from three breakthroughs in
    " methodology:
    " -High-level languages...
    " -Time sharing...
" -Integrated programming environments such as Unix and Interlisp
    " that...at least double productivity. "
