[comp.sys.xerox] Generic Question

carr@Apple.COM (Randy Carr) (03/11/89)

Hi, I'm an ex-XEROXer who has a question about an old work-related pastime.

Back in 1980-81, I spent numerous hours (lots of us did) wasting away playing
the old Alto II based Trek program that was originally written by Eugene Ball
at the university of Rochester. The question is this: Does anybody know the
whereabouts of Eugene Ball and/or the current state of Trek?

I've been working on for several years, a Macintosh-based version of Trek that
I fondly call NetTrek. NetTrek was originally an experiment (and a skill
builder) for me to teach myself a bit of programming. Well, after 4 years of
messing around with the code, I finally am about to release a commercial version
of NetTrek that supports color and lots of other Macintosh specific stuff.

I want to put Mr. Ball's name in the program as an inspirational author, but
I thought I should at least try to talk to him first.

Thanks giving me some bandwidth...

Jaap, I sent the abstract off BEFORE I went to Washington. Should
I send in a revision, or just forget about it? (Ted didn't recommend
any very substantial changes.)

Take care,
Marty
