We have had two common 1186 monitor problems on monitors over two years old. One is accidental shorting of the high-voltage power supply regulator chip due to trying to adjust the horizontal control (upper right side rear from back of monitor with the plastic cover off) with a metal sceewdriver-always use a nylon screwdriver! This repair costs about $19.00 for the regulator and 15 minutes labor. The other problem is due to bad ventillation around the high voltage regulator chip. These overheat and will eventually blow all monitors but it will usually blow the regulator before it blows the C.R.T. suggested cooling remedies include 1) put a little electric fan blowing on back of monitor 2) cut a hole about 3 in x 1 in between the long slits on back top of monitor cabinet near the back. dick
