[comp.sys.xerox] Xerox Internet Numbers

rew@apollo.HP.COM (Robert Wolters) (10/24/89)

Xerox had supplied Apollo Computer with a range of Internet
Numbers a two years ago. That range of numbers is almost used
up. (ie. 00029cf2 - 00029fdf) These numbers are based on the
	Xerox Internet Transport Protocol.

We need to find out where to locate another block of these 'unique'
hexidecimal network numbers. The old contact info we have is:

               Xerox Corporation
               Office Systems Division
               Network Systems Administration Office
               3450 Hillview Avenue
               Palo Alto, California 94304
               415-494-4700

They no longer exist - or so we are told. Can anyone out there help
us! We will run out of the numbers soon!

	Thanks,

Number adminstration for Xerox protocols is handled by the Xerox Systems Institute. It
is located in Sunnyvale, CA. I believe that you need to talk to Fonda Lix (no joke!) at
(408) 737-4652.

In the April issue of Courier on page 10 there is a note that says
"This area of responsibility [ethernet address allocation] was transferred to
the IEEE January 1, 1986. Contact the IEEE, 345 East 47th Street, New York,
NY 10017, ATTN: Vince Condello, (212) 705-7092."
The Xerox Systems Institute allocates the XNS reserved numbers now
(eg. well-known sockets, Courier program numbers). Their phone number is
(408) 737-4652.
