Hi, In a previous posting, someone asked about how many Altos and Stars there were. Since the 8000/1108 were commerical products, I would expect that there are still a fair number (hundreds??) kicking around. The Alto, however, was never sold. I suspect that I have the largest remaining collection outside of Xerox at around twenty machines. The machines donated to MIT went to the Boston Computer Museum, where some were sold off to raise money. The other big blocks (10 each?) went to universities which included the U of Rochester, CMU, Stanford, Cal Tech, and a few went to the White House. I haven't been able to track down what happened to any of those machines except the Stanford ones, which were scrapped about a year ago. From time to time, Alto boards show up in the surplus stores out here in the slimey-valley, probably discarded from PARC... - RIP - -- Al Kossow @ Apple Computer, Inc., Cupertino, CA Internet: aek@apple.com Phone: (408) 974-5136
