Someone told me that this is usually a power-supply problem -- namely, after being in idle mode for a long time (say over 1 day), you'll see the screen suddenly shrink briefly and then expand back to normal (accompanied by a small cracking/static noise) when you just logged into the system (because switching from being near-dark to total brightness will take a lot of power and if the power-supply is not up to it, you'll see this problem). So, I called Xerox up. And they said that this could be a problem. But they said that there're 3 power-supplies -- 2 in the chassis and one inside the monitor/console. The one inside the monitor is called the high-voltage power-supply. Now, doesn't anyone know that it is usually this particular power-supply. The only problem is that this power-supply will have to be replaced along with the monitor -- in other words, we'll need to replace the entire monitor if the culprit is indeed this high-voltage power-supply. Does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost to replace this kind of monitor (on a time & material basis) ? Any pointers appreciated. -- Eric Ho Princeton University eho@clarity.princeton.edu
