[comp.sys.zenith.z100] FTP Transfers to a VAX

E.M.Boehm@UACSC1.ALBANY.EDU (12/02/87)

As far as I know, there is *NO WAY* to get binary files to a VAX. I put up
this same question a few weeks ago. I got conflicting reports about using
tenex, binary, image modes (binary and image are the same thing).

Fortunately, I had access to a unix machine running 4.3 BSD that supported
tenex transfers (also known as type l 8).

The TOPS-20 uses a 36 bit word while the VAX uses a 32 bit word. It seems that
the high 4 bits get dropped off. So your file size is incorrect.

Our VAX is an 8650 and the FTP software only supports image and ascii transfer.
I have tried to tell it tenex and type l 8 but it does not know these options.
If you need pkx35a35.exe I can either e-mail it to you or give you the
name of a few BBS's that carry it.
