Just received latest Heapsh*t catalog, and they're peddling their old laptop computer with some freebie software for $400 (and including a coupon for $200 on future purchases) which is just around my pain threshold. Does anybody out there have one, and/or are there any opinions? Mostly I'd use it for toteing around the house to enter data about records, cassettes, videotapes, etc and would then upload into my hz-100 databases for same. I'd probably also use it for quickie letter writing (also to upload) when I'm too lazy to walk in to the den and fire up the -100. Is it a dog, or should I go for it? What will I hate about it? As for the $200 certificate (assuming I do the above), I still have a note on my wall about Painter's Apprentice, but don't find it in the catalog. Is it still available, and is the Kraft Micromouse in the Heath Catalog the one to buy if I find it? Thanks, and Happy New Year to all. don [malpass@LL-vlsi.arpa]

ZDS could barely GIVE the ZP-150 away. I have little info on it, but what I heard it is an unloved dog with a barely readable screen. ZDS gave about 12 away at HUGCON and the people all but said 'Oh, gee, thanx...' I assume you can still order Painter's Apprentice from Heath (Russ?), if not, Russ Nelson may be able to do something about making it available somehow. Due to lack of driver support, ONLY buy the MicroSoft serial mouse for the Z-100. MS-Windows contains built in support for it only. Painter's Apprentice contains a MS mouse driver. I only know of a Z-100 driver (Not sure if PD) for a Logitech Logimouse and a driver for MS mouse. I do not know of ANY other mouse drivers for the Z-100. Good luck, Gern -------

Is it a dog, or should I go for it? Arf, arf. (If it sounds like a dog, it's a dog). They loaned us one back when it used to cost a fortune. We gave it back. It's the only piece of equipment we've ever given back. Arf, arf. I imagine that they would keep it in the catalog as long as they still had any stock left. After all, it's just one line in a catalog, right? It didn't cost them anything to advertise, RIGHT? I mean, all they ever did with it was put it in the catalog as if thousands and thousands of people were waiting all over the world to buy it, R I G H T? Oh well, I don't know why I'm pissed, I sold it for a flat fee, so the volume of sales didn't really matter. I just like to see people using my programs. That's why I write them... -russ

Gern & Russ, Thanix for the warning. I'll save my $400 till a better laptop becomes sufficiently obsolete that IT will sell for that price. Meanwhile, in the absence of the $200 certificate, I'll get along without painter's apprentice a while longer. It's not as if I'm looking for things to occupy my time, but only that there will soon be NO further goodies available for Z-100's and that's the only toy I'd heard about that sounded like fun. don malpass
