[comp.sys.zenith.z100] kermit ver 3.0

McGuffey@DOCKMASTER.ARPA ("MAJ DAVID C. MCGUFFEY") (02/18/88)

Has anyone tested the new version of KERMIT (now 3.0) on the Z-100? I noticed
that the info-kermit digest indicated that the new release was out, but that
it had not yet been tested on the Z-100.

I've used it on my 100, and it appears to work pretty well. Definitely
recommended for any Kermit addict like myself! It doesn't do VT-102 or
Tek 4010 like the PC version does, but it still does VT-52 (one hell of
a programming feat on a Z-100, eh? :-). Hey, but if anyone out there
wants to add VT-102 to it, I'm sure that many of us would be eternally
grateful.

The latest version of kermit for the Z-100 is labeled:
"Z-100 (Alpha Test) Kermit-MS: V2.29d 16 Jan 1988.

I have been using it since then (16 Jan) and have found it to be a nice
improvement over 2.29b (the last working version). It is available from
columbia via bitnet as MSTZ10.BOO (kermsrv@cuvma) or via FTP from CU20B in
KER:MSTZ10.BOO.

I have tried the MSTZ10.BOO version that was available on CU20B as of the 17th.
On my Z-100 it ehibited several bugs. Running at 9600 baud, it could not
seem to handle a directory listing on the remote host - after several correct
lines it displayed garbage. And returning to the Kermit prompt logged me off
the distant host. This version does not have VT-100 or Tek emulation. I did
not have time to try file transfers.

I got MSTZ10.BOO yesterday. On a Z100 running at 8 mh, the screen could not
keep up. Dropping to 4800 baud corrected the problem. Did not have a log off
occur when escaping to kermit or dos though.
