[comp.sys.zenith.z100] Disks...

GUBBINS@RADC-TOPS20.ARPA (Gern) (02/26/88)

I really hate to rekindle "The Great Floppy Brand Debates" from INFO-MICRO
and other lists of years past.

Dysan is Best, generally too expensive, buy them if you can afford them.

I put all my faith in Maxell Disks. I have operating Maxell disks that
are over 12 years old that still contain the original data. The quality
of the disks are very good and they also are 'guarenteed'.

I know several people that swear by 3M disks as well.

I will not put a NoName disk in my personal machines. If you want to
take the risk of excessive head wear, and with the test of time and
use: Bit Rot (Data Fade), media flaking, etc. Guarenteed or not, the
company that sold the disk to you might not be around, and usually
the disks do not even pride themselves enough to indicate who manufactured
them.

I do not like putting NoName disks in my USAF Z-100, but NoName disks
are all that the USAF buys for use around here.

Experiment: Try Generic Toothpaste, it is Guarenteed to work just as
well as the Big Brand Names.

Cheers,
Gern
