A couple of years ago, in one of my many stints at a computer store, we received a ranking of disk brands from some testing agency.. (don't swear by this; I'm doing it from memory. I have no affiliation with any of the companies mentioned herein, or with anyone else for that matter. :-) The ranking went something like this: Dysan (incl. Xidex, which either own or is owned by Dysan, don't remember) Maxell Verbatim 3M Sony TDK Memorex ..and so on.. As an aside, Verbatim was their name brand disk; NOT the "Elephant", which not only were terrible in terms of reliability, but they sounded like you had elephants in your disk drive. :-) There were a few "almost-no-name" brands (Kilobyte, ofr example), which rated fairly high as well. Overall, though, most disks passed the same tests; the standards nowdays are met by just about everyone, as opposed to the good 'ole days when Maxell was the only one.. (and a box of SS/SD disks for my Atari 800 costs $40/box of 10, and that was a bargain.. :-) -dg-
