You may wish to try the ZCOMM106 program which I just uploaded to SIMTEL20. It's a Procomm clone for HZ100's. Filename Type Bytes CRC Directory PD1:<HZ100> ZCOMM106.ARC.1 BINARY 91827 6CE3H Of course this program is useful for more than null modem transfers. It's a full blown modem program with exploding windows, color, and bells and whistles. --Keith Petersen Maintainer of SIMTEL20's CP/M, MSDOS, and MISC archives Internet: w8sdz@WSMR-SIMTEL20.Army.Mil [26.2.0.74] Uucp: {ames,decwrl,harvard,rutgers,ucbvax,uunet}!wsmr-simtel20.army.mil!w8sdz

ZCOMM lists VT-100 as an option in its terminal setup screen, but it appears to actually emulate a VT-52. Is there a later version that does real VT-100 emulation? If not, is there something else that runs on the Z-100 (with 192k) and doesn't cost 1 arm + 1 leg? (Apologies if this has been answered here a zillion times. I've just started reading this newsgroup.) -- +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ | Richard M. I spent well over three hours on it before I managed to get it to dial my modem for me, including the 1170 code to disable call-waiting. It drops characters when scrolling. It doesn't respond to a Vax set term/inquire, and something happened to force not only a disconnect form the Vax, but also from the DecNet server. My personal opinion of this program is that is isn't worth the $35 registration fee as is. It isn't as good as Procomm, which I didn't like either, when I had to use it. And yes, it doesn't do VT-100, either ANSI or just plain terminal emulation. I tried several BBS's with it, and when selecting ANSI graphics, got the same garbage as when I try it with KERMIT. It needs work. The search for a Z100 terminal emulator that supports VT100 emulation at high speeds (9600 baud or better) has occupied a bit of my time this year. I also found similar problems with ZCOMM106. Three rays of hope: 1) BinkleyTerm. The VT100 support is pretty good (though I never use the keypad keys, so I speak mostly from screen graphics experience). It's a full-blown Fidonet support package with dumb terminal emulation as a "side" option (like buying a Greyhound to go to the grocery store). The biggest problem is speed: even version 2 can't keep up with screen scrolling when I connect over direct lines to our mini at 9600 baud. It's free for the trying: I can dig up the number of Steve Marcussen's BBS (hope that's right) in Florida where I found it if anyone needs it. 2) Kermit. Drew Derbyshire has been donating his time towards improving Z100 Kermit. I'm helping test Version 2.32A right now. It can handle any speed. The only problem is that it only supports VT-52 right now. If any- one with Z100 assembly language and terminal emulation experience would like to assist Drew in this WORTHY cause, I'm certain he'd welcome the help. If nothing else, drop him a cheery note (aud@clutx.clarkson.edu) and "thank him for his support." Z100 programming can be a lonely world to live in at times... 3) Craig Armstrong, coordinator of the H/Z echo on Fidonet, is working on a better term-em program, which he plans to release in both PC and Z100 versions. Beta test copies have been circulated for awhile, but the Z100-specific sections aren't as far along as the rest, last I heard. His West Coast BBS number is (714) 642-0561 for more information, or if you'd just like to write to encourage him. If there are any other options that folks know of, please post! Uhh...correction. Make Drew's address ahd@clutx.clarkson.edu, not aud@... I only have 1200 baud at home, so the speed shouldn't be a problem. Any chance this could be made available for anonymous FTP? -- +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ | Richard M.
