Does anyone out there have a version of Minix up and running on a Z-100? I've got a machine here doing nothing and would love to set it up that way. Also, would I have any difficulty installing an off-the-shelf 1/2 height MFM hard drive? I've already got a 10Mb with controller in there and DOS 3.1 Maybe I'll be able to start some real projects on this orphan (no flames please :^) Grant Prellwitz

I am also looking for anyone who has ported MINIX to the Z-100. You >should< have no problem putting a second hard disk in the Z-100 if you already have one, assuming you have a ZDS controller set. I believe Mixing 10MB for the first disk with other sizes is no problem. Cheers, Gern -------

Gern: It seems like no one has done Minix for the Z-100, and I don't have time to be the first. Maybe in a couple of years :^) I think you're right in that I'll have no trouble putting a second HD in the Z-100. I did, however, have difficulty in using the Z-100 HD in my AT. I needed to get a file off it while my Z-100 wouldn't boot, so I hooked it up to my 286 and said that I had a Type 1, but it was unable to find any sectors. Thanks anyway, Grant Prellwitz

Thats easy to explain. Z-100 uses one more sector/track than the PC world uses, so cross connecting formatted Hard disks won't work. A Seagate ST-225 on a XT or AT formats to 20.0 MBytes. On a Z-100 that same drive formats to 22.5MBytes. Gern -------
