I wish to point out and congratulate Gregory D. Elder for the fame and fortune in getting his article on "Great Inexpensive Software For The Z-100" published in the July 1989 issue of Heath's REMark magazine. As everyone should be aware, Greg is a frequent submitter of info and programs to INFO-HZ100. Greg - You forgot to mention file-name-completion on CED100 (you do know about it, enter part of a filename and hit [LINE FEED] (default key)). It is interesting to note that I gave the names to CED100 (from just CED), RATRUN (from MAZE, converted from an Apple ][ program by a friend at Clarkson), and FOOTBALL was also obtained from a Clarkson student. So what is this PATROL and STALKER programs you mention? Haven't heard of them. You gonna upload 'em!!!!????????? (-: Cheers, Gern -------

Yes, great article! I keep hoping to write to Greg and plea for a good followup on Z-100 Kermit. With the improvements Drew Derbyshire has been making, it's no longer a "poor cousin" to the PC version. Incidentally, that issue will be kept forever by me also, but mostly because <grin> <double-grin> it was my inaugural piece of public print also under my psuedonym Richard, which name is used only by my Dad and teachers when I was in trouble! Of course, it wasn't a Z100 piece, but it was the easiest to put together at the time I got the idea last winter... You got me thinking that Z100 articles have to be worked on or else REMark will forget about us (I'm a Z159 at home, a Z100 at work). I've enjoyed playing with RightHandMan, an old Z100 Sidekick-type TSR program, and I'd love to do a REMark article if I could get in touch with the RHM author. The RED E PRODUCTS address I found in the docs for RHM is no longer valid. Have you any clue where the author is? One release back, no VT-100, no TEK4014 no screen rollback... has someone been slipping you copes of Kermit with my name on it? HOWEVER, good news, I am working on it again (I was doing UUCP hacks for two months), and if I let my new car sit in the driveway for a change I'll have new version for people to abuse. It runs _alot_ faster (not your copy Dick, you already have the fast version). Anyone got a nice example in MASM of how to detect if the user has multiple pages of video memory and how to swap between them? I am even willing to copy the memory to a buffer if needed. Marcus, Ansi mode? I _assume_ you are doing it via an MS-DOS ANSI driver; if so, then I can't help your dropped characters, the sucker runs like a dog because of MS-DOS overhead. If you are doing ANSI mode without MS-DOS, you aren't using Z-100 Kermit-MS, because it's all Z-100 ROM (which doesn't support Heath-19 ANSI mode). News flash... I I think I can get UUPC (a UUCP clone) working on the Z-100. Anyone interested? Otherwise I'll skip it, I use Kendra (an Epson III+ AT clone) for my mail. I was using ZANSI.DVD for the ANSI mode testing. I KNOW ANSI.DVD is a piece of junk. However, I also drop characters in "normal" mode. I have the same problem with BesTerm, and in neither case is it an overwhelming difficulty. I normally use 2.29 for GP modemming, and rarely lose stuff, about average for the way my fingers hit the keys. The problem seems to come up most often in editors (on Unix mostly) and in posting routines on BBS's. Most of the the things you worked so hard to add to the program, I don't ever use.
