[comp.sys.zenith.z100] Need help 8" drive jumpers

mac@harris.cis.ksu.edu (Myron A. Calhoun) (09/06/90)

In addition to the usual pair of 5 1/4" floppy drives, I have two
Remex 4000 8" disk drives attached to my Zenith Z-100, and I'd sure
like to learn just what the various little jumper-selectable options
on the drive boards do.

All of the drives work, but with one little "hitch" that bugs me.
Reading a Shugart manual for similar drives (unfortunately, I don't
have Shugart drives), makes me suspect one of the jumpers will un-bug me.

The "hitch" is that when I boot, my system doesn't recognize the
presence of either 8" drive UNLESS the drive door is closed (whether
or not a diskette is inside). The Shugart 850 manual manual lists
an option to "select drive and enable stepper without loading heads",
which would (probably) permit my system to step to track 00 and
verify that the drive is actually present.

Does anyone know anything about the Remex jumpers (or other options)?
